Mellor VillageSituated at the foot of the Peak District, Mellor has for centuries provided an ideal location for the ever changing residents who have occupied this area. Evidence of Bronze Age and Roman settlements have been found next to Mellor Church and a number of important artefacts have been found which are displayed in the Parish Hall in the summer when further excavations are undertaken. It is thought possible that a Roman Villa is located under the church, an early holiday house for a Roman General stationed in Manchester? A 'round house' has been constructed near the excavation site, the early Mellor dwellers! |

Today we have the ideal location to provide Mellor Country House guests with a picturesque and relaxing environment away from the pressures of city life. Predominantly a ribbon development, the village starts at the bottom of a valley in Longhurst Lane and extends for 3 miles. The road winds up a hill becoming Moor End Road where most of the older part of the village is situated. The Church of St Thomas's dominates the hill overlooking the village and surrounding countryside. |
The residents of Mellor village take an active part in fundraising not only for the House but a lot of related charities. In March an annual walk around the boundaries raises money for various charities including Cancer Research . This is well supported as the countryside around Mellor is magnificent. The pictures shown on this page were taken during the 2004 'Mellor March' which is heavily supported by the local hostelries who welcome the additional trade that is provided by the hungry and thirsty walkers! |
